Chapter Twenty-One

Violet looked up from her computer as Kai walked in.

“Planning, mom?”

“I have three retreats one day apart, back-to-back,” she smiled. “I do so enjoy having folks over. They’ve all been vetted. There’s a three-day weekend this weekend, Lydia and her helpers have the rooms prepared for that. It’s a simple religious retreat on dealing with stress in daily life. Jasmine will be teaching, Noel leading as well, and some of the children. All of the folks coming are cancer survivors and they decided to come to a retreat to learn about life again, as one put it. So gentler exercise, self-esteem building. They leave Sunday afternoon. Our team will give everything a good cleaning and then Tuesday through Friday morning we are hosting a building trust retreat for new Bravo recruits. Always fun; they don’t expect how strenuous our retreats can be. Colonel Jeffries is bringing the team newbies, guess there are twelve of them. He’s in charge of the physical conditioning, and Jasmine and I do the mental and emotional prep. If they pass us, they’re on the Bravo team. All of them have come out of special forces. Noel has a hand in that one as well. Gabriel will be watching over injuries as usual. And finally, Sunday, Monday Tuesday with several colleagues from the business world, mostly techies, mostly here to learn how to play well together at their firms.”
